45, Jubilee Hills

" Don't judge a book by its cover", that was the adage which promptly matches our review about this place.Red and black decor and excellent location is all which looks good from outside, but once we visited the place we were thoroughly disappointed . Not only does the ambience look a Lil dingy and shady, the service too was a Lil too pushy in-terms of order and service of food. We were placed comfortably in a cozy corner of the first level of the restaurant. They have a two level seating , extending to accommodate an outdoor dining area too. The restaurant offers Indian , Chinese and a sizzler platter .The menu had a variety of items which commonly are not found in other restaurants (the only plus point I think) , but the titles were a lil odd, for e.g Chinese items were titled GLORIOUS CHINESE, AWESOME INDIAN and so on. The waiter was too confused while taking the order.Though the appetizer (Lemon and coriander soup) was yum it was a lil spicy. The main course was...

Passenger;Malayalam movie review

An honest and a thought provoking malayalam commercial(if I may take the liberty in calling so)movie! Well, many people believe that breed to be endangered ,if not an extinct one. While bollywood and kollywood have been daring enough to experiment with newer premises, presentation styles and craftsmen, the so called 'm0llywood' have,by and large, remained stagnant with an unwillingness to think 'out of the box'.Taking a cue from his peers like Neeraj Pandey and Nishikanth Kamath, debutant director Ranjith shankar comes out with a decent movie, showcasing the capricious nature of our lives and the role every duty bound citizen can play in such situations.Though the movie falls well short of being a classic, the timing of its release and the relief it provides from the other run- of -the- mill types, has enabled it to garner a positive response from the easily dissatisfied and 'ever craving' malayalis. Oscar turns 80!!

Oscar awards began on May 16, 1929, when the academy awards were first held without any fanfare. It was known as "The statuette" before officially naming it as OSCAR.The president of the Academy Margaret Herrick saw the statuette on the office desk way back in 1931,and exclaimed "He looks like my uncle Oscar!". Ever since the award was known as "Oscar". Although there have been various versions about the origin of the name, the name ‘Oscar’ stuck. The award is about 13.5 inches long and is coated with 24 carat gold. They are produced by the Dodge trophy company , Illinois and costs around 300$. With only 250 attendees, the very first Academy Awards, held on May 16, 1929, was not broadcast, was hosted at the prestigious Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Today the academy has more than 6000 members.."Just about everyone who helps make motion pictures". The first Indian to win an Oscar was Bhanu Athaiya for her costume design for Gandhi ,though she shared ...

People who swear by the Google search engine, here comes BING

Image
Microsoft unveiled its new search engine called Bing (www.bing.com) which they claim is more attractive than "Live search". Bing means a certain answer, or a response to a query, in Chinese. Some of the features are: Autosuggest feature that guesses what you are trying to type. Document preview which lets you look over the search result and preview the sites content. Bing organizes search results into categories. For eg. if you search for a favourite author categories are listed on the top left of the page called "explore pane" and the tab like links called "quick tabs" lets you filter by albums, biography, images etc. For some queries, a single “Best Match” results may appear. These are designed to show the very best site in cases where Microsoft is super confident you only need a single link. With Bing™, you don't have to leave what you're doing and open another browser window. Your search experience just got better, whether you're searching ...

Fusion 9/F9

Located about a stone's throw away from Kondapur T junction on your right is the newly opened F9 multi-cuisine restaurant. The ambience here is more like a sophisticated coffee shop but not all that bad. The spacing is excellent since they have a huge open air terrace candle lit seating along with the normal A/C spacing. The buffet provides you with a plethora of options, right from Mughlai, Southern Indian, Italian and assortments of other world cuisines (more than 9 cuisines ,that's what have heard of).We opted for the Lebanese platter which wasn't much to our liking. The main course ordered were a mix of cuisines, right from God's own country's speciality Mutton chops with Kerala Parotha ,and the delicacy of Italy pasta ,which were just appetizing. The iced tea here is also truly amazing. The portion's served are also good enough. They are not heavily priced too.Though we have heard a lot bout their desserts couldn't manage to gobble anything after this scrum...

Teenage comic hero Archie gets hitched!

Image
Archie comics were a big part of my childhood. But I stopped reading them years ago and didn't even realize they were still making them. Archie Comics is an American comic book publisher. It was created in 1941 by publisher/editor John L. Goldwater, written by Vic Bloom and drawn and created by Bob Montana. They are known for its many series featuring the fictional teenage Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Reggie Mantle and Forsythe "Jughead" Jones among the other many character's. Archie is a typical small-town teenager who studies at Riverdale High School, and is also a lead singer of The Archies band. He is known to be a well-mannered lad but at times clumsy. As a normal teenager, Archie goes ga-ga over pretty girls. Archie has been involved in a romantic triangle with Betty and Veronica, and this has become the hallmark of the Archie stories since the character was created more than 60 years ago. Now we hear that Archie has finally decided to take the...

Roger Federer finally breaks the Clay jinx

Image
Finally we see Roger Federer clinch the French open title on sunday with his masterful strokes and performance. The Swiss maestro realised a lifetime dream of finally lifting a Roland Garros title to become only the sixth man in history to win on all four grand slam surfaces with his victory over Robin Soderling equalling Pete Sampras's record of 14 Grand Slam trophies. Federer has already three Australian Open titles, five US Open titles and five Wimbledon titles in his kitty. This has just added another feather to his overcrowded hat. History was at stake, and Federer was at his best, completely outplaying No. 23-seeded Robin Soderling of Sweden en route to a 6-1, 7-6 (1), 6-4 victory in a French Open final that lacked suspense but not significance. For only two moments was Federer the least bit shaken. It happened after the first point at 2-1 in the second set, when a fan went right up to Federer and tried to put a red hat on him. Federer brushed the man aside before security guards...

Roger Federer attacked by a fan

A man carrying a Barcelona flag dressed in same colours ran towards the court in between the match and got all the way to Federer. He tried to get him wear the hat that he was wearing around his head, but he ran off when the security raced towards him and carried him off. Though he has to deal with this unwelcome visitor ,and mildly shaken by this act Roger Federer continued his excellent play and went on to win his first French open title. The security breach reminded many tennis fans of the Monica Seles stabbing , which took place in Germany in 1993. Video: Roger Federer attacked by a fan

Fast and Furious

Director : Justin Lin Duration : 1 hr. 39 min Fast and Furious is back with a bang, a sequel better than the previous one and is comparable to the first in the series. Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) is back as the fugitive ex-con and he along with agent Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) makes a good pair, engaging us in high adrenaline car chases and stunts. Letty (Michelle) & Mia (Jordana) play lady love to the two protagonists and both of them continue on their roles from the first movie (The Fast and the Furious) in this series. John Ortis (Campos) gives an impetus to the villian role with his ethnically oriented role.  Running on a not-too-novel story line, the main USP of this movie are the precision car chases inside tunnels spanning international lines (US-Mexico) and convoy hiests. This is a movie that ought to be watched on big screen (not at your home on video) for its screeching audios and breathtaking videos/scenes. At times, these car stunts gave a feeling of an extended ...

Chutneys

The Best part of the meal here is what its own name says "Chutneys" 6 of them .One of it is a pure coconut chutney and the others are dal-based chutney, tomato chutney and ginger chutney. I just love the plain white chutney made out of nothing but sweet Coconut, and a lil bit of salt to taste! The sambar they serve you here is perfectly blend and yet it’s not thick. The taste, am damn sure, cannot be achieved by any of the Badshah, 555 or Everest Masalas. They serve water in copper glasses and food is served on the plantain leaf Wow! They serve a variety of south Indian items and other multi cuisine too. Of the many items a must try is the Babai idli, which is hot soft and fluffy steamed idli with a scoop of butter. One of the items, which will immediately capture your attention is the Four Uthapam (Mango Utappam, Onion Utappam, Pudina Utappam and Karam Utappam).Other than their specialties, they also have dosas with different vegetarian fillings, be it mushroom, paneer or baby...

The Great Kebab Factory

The Great Kebab Factory started on November 10th, 2008 in Hyderabad. TGKF is a classy restaurant chain (Noida, UAE) branded and managed by the Radisson Hospitality Group. It follows the concept of ''Serving an Unlimited Dining Experience'' through a unique and brand synonymous ''sit in buffet'' concept. They serve veg and non veg meals. Usually kebabs are associated with non-vegetarian food but surprisingly there are quite a lot of choices for vegetarians too here. The lunch, incidentally lays emphasis on an endless supply of kebabs as main course rather than as starters, in unlimited quantities with a mouth-watering ulte tawa ka paratha. The paratha is a special one, and is cooked on the reverse side of a tawah. This is followed by a host of breads, two kinds of dal and a mixed veg curry, rice and accompaniments, followed by a generous array of dessert. What is interesing is that they serve 4 varieties of desserts. Dont miss the Pan flavoured ice cream whic...
