All Hearts Tour by Shreya Ghoshal: A Long Evening of Music
Getting Ready
The All Hearts Tour by Shreya Ghoshal, on 30th November at LB Stadium in Hyderabad was a concert to look forward to. Our first experience of a Shreya Ghoshal concert, we took a less tiring approach to travelling by metro to the concert, avoiding the traffic induced pressure, anxieties and long waits. Travel by metro was a breeze.
For the concert scheduled to start at 7 PM, we reached the stadium around 6:15 PM. The stadium was a short walk from the “Assembly” metro station. At the stadium, quickly headed to the ticket counters to gather the wrist band for entry into the designated viewing areas. A gold class ticket with seating that cost Rs.2,300/ticket, was too far from the stage, though the viewing area was within the grounds and not the stadium seating (which was silver). The stadium facilities were inadequate, with temporary outdoor toilets and a limited selection of overpriced snacks (a small popcorn bowl for Rs. 200).
Concert
The concert started around 40 minutes late (7:40 PM), and there weren’t any opening acts except for the RJ, who failed to impress. Shreya was charming and connected well with the crowd. Started with a chartbuster “Sunn Raha Hai” and belted a good mix of Hindi and Telugu songs. Along with full length songs, in between, she also sang a medley of songs. Was impressive singing live, with impeccable diction of Telugu songs and an impressive rendition of the lyrics without referring. Equally impressive was Kinjal Chatterjee, who sang duets with her. The show ran till almost 11 PM, a non-stop entertainment that was only interrupted by boring felicitations in between (twice). Except for the 15-20-minute break in between, Shreya was non-stop, energetic and charming in her voice and connect with the crowd. At the interval, Kinjal took over, and lo behold he started with the evergreen KK number “Pal”. This song in itself made my day. He also sang a few AR Rahman hits. The musicians equally impressed us, with a special shout out to the flautist. As we were about to leave, getting too late, she sang the song (to end the concert) that we were waiting for all along, the classic “Mere Dholna Sun”, the very best to the end.
Summary
Though the area had seating arrangements, most of the folks ended up standing for a better view. Attended by ~20,000 people, it was an evening to remember, though long with wavering energy. Few of the songs were average and less energetic or not popular enough to sing along. She also seem to have skipped some very good, popular ones as well.
