New York

Director : Kabir Khan
Duration :2 hr. 39 min

Kudos to Kabir Khan for his brilliant script, screenplay and direction in New York. Finally when the multiplex strike ends, we get a dramatic thriller from the director which portrays the life of an average Muslim in America post 9/11.

The movie is about three friends – Omar (Neil Nitin Mukesh) ,Sameer (John Abraham) and Maya (Katrina Kaif) who meet at a New York campus , and how the catastrophic terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11 turns their lives topsy turvy.

The movie starts with Omar who lands himself in the FBI net after ammunition is found in his car trunk.Roshan (Irrfan Khan) steps in as a crime investigator and grills Omar and extracts information about Sam , Omar’s friend, who the FBI claims, is running a sleeper terrorist cell to attack America anytime. Roshan convinces Omar to go back to Sam and Maya (who he isn't in touch with post 9/11) and work as a FBI undercover operative. Omar gets entry into Sameer’s house and tries to unveil his terrorist identity but much to his relief ,fails each time . In contrast, Sameer narrates his agonizing past of how he was labeled as a terrorist, detained and brutally tortured, by the FBI for 9 months. He also informs him of how he was victimized for being a Muslim suspect in New York immediately after 9/11. The physical and mental abuse on innocent Muslims, imprisoned in spite of a lack of concrete evidence and their consequent repercussions are effectively portrayed.

Talking of acting , everybody has felt the characters in the script and acted out them well .Even Katrina does her part well . Her accent just does full justice to this movie since she is an American born lady , which otherwise seems a lil offbeat in other Hindi movies .The cinematography by Aseem Mishra is great and music by Pritam is outstanding and has been used by the director in a brilliant way.

This movie is a must watch and strongly recommended.
