Hats off to the entire "Kaminey" team for this brilliant caper thriller. With all the hype much before the movie's release, expectations were sky high. Thankfully, Vishal delivered what he has promised. It is a cocktail of pure entertainment, Bollywood masala, gang wars, violence, like never presented before in Bollywood. Though the movie reminds us of Guy Ritchie ,Quentin Tarantino and Coen Brothers brands of cinema ,Vishal Bharadwaj has perfectly made it to suit the Bollywood milieu.

Kaminey is an enthralling story of two estranged twin brothers, Guddu and Charlie (Shahid Kapur), who have nothing in common ,and are different from each other as chalk and cheese. Charlie, who has a lisp (pronounces ‘sa’ as ‘fa’), wants to become a big time race course bookie and is looking for a ‘fortcut’ to make big ‘paifa’ , while Guddu, who stammers, has a clear life plan chalked out before him. The brothers haven't met each other in years, until they collide into each other, due to circumstances. In a battle of survival surrounded by money, drugs and violence the two realize that all they have is each other. Misunderstanding’s lead to further chaos and this forms the rest of the plot.

Vishal Bharadwaj’s music is par excellence. If the "Dhan Te Nan" number sung by Sukhwinder Singh and vishal Dadlani would make even a non dancer's foot tapping, "Thode Bheege" by Mohit chouhan is a beautiful and soothing slow melody .Then we have a fast-paced track "Raat ke dhai baje" which is a fusion of Western and Indian influences sung by Suresh Wadkar, Rekha Bhardwaj, Sunidhi Chauhan and Kunal Ganjawala (though I preferred the remix to the original). The song , “Fatak” , talks about AIDS in a so creative and appealing way. “Fatak” is the sound of the whip and it symbolises how people need a whip sometimes to understand things in life.Kailash Kher and Sukhwinder Singh sang this earthy folk song with style , and makes sure that the message goes out loud . However, the most beautiful song in the album, is the title track "Kaminey" sung by the music director himself. This song has a beautiful western style and melody to it.

Though the music and cinematography by Tassaduq Hussain are the key strengths of ‘Kaminey’, what holds the film together is the performances of the actors. Shahid Kapur is just outstanding. He not only mastered the speech defects, he puts on a different body language for the twin characters. Priyanka Chopra too plays her character of a love-struck Maharashtrian girl impeccably. Her Maharashtrain accent too goes very well with the character. The multi talented writer-painter-actor Amol gupte (writer and creative director of Taare Zameen Par) delivers a fine performance as a goon with a political ambition. He has enacted the mock gunplay between him and the newcomer Chandan Roy (who plays Shahid’s sidekick) with superior excellence. His brilliant performace could get him far more excellent roles.

I heard a lot of guys say they couldn't understand the movie because of the complex characters. Well I guess Vishal Bharadwaj made this movie for his millions of fans do not like to be spoon fed.

I thought it was an out and out original thriller .

Total Paifa Vafool. Fuberb and Fantaftic movie.

Rating - 4/5
