The movie is based on a character created for T.V promos at the launch of the music network Channel [V] in 1994. The character had a cult following, and made catchprases like 'Mind it' and 'We are like this only' popular. Its basically an extended version of Shahrukh Khan’s Rajnikant like act in Om Shanti Om or Dhoni’s Pepsi Ad.It's the director’s tribute to the over-the-top era of the 70s and 80s.The movie revolves around adventures of Quick Gun Murugun along with his love to be Mango Dolly (played by Rambha) and Locket Lover (played by Anu Menon).
Quick Gun Murugun (played by Telugu star Rajendra Prasad) is a Tamil cowboy , whose duty is to protect the world against Rice Plate Reddy (Nasser) - a restaurant owner, who wants to create the ultimate non-veg dosa.QGM believes that vegetarianism is the need of the hour and has to do something good for the world .On the other hand Rice Plate wants to be the supreme lord of Dosamakers, and kidnaps anyone who possesses the perfect recipe for making lip smacking Dosas. In the process, he confronts Quick Gun Murugan and succeeds in killing him. Quick Gun Murugan is taken to heaven and there he appeals to Chitra Gupta (Vinay Pathak) about how fate has terminated his mission to save the world from non-vegetarianism. By the time Chitra Gupta sends him back to the earth , Rice Plate Reddy has become a food baron who is on the verge of coming up with ‘Mc Dosa’ brand of hotels that serve only non-vegetarian dosas. The rest of the story is all about how Quick Gun Murugan saves the world.
Director Shashanka Ghosh’s direction is spot on.Dr Rajendra Prasad is just perfect for the role and has pulled off the role with much brilliance.Nasser as Rice Plate Reddy, is fantastic.Rambha does well too. The rest including Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey in short roles do well. Background music plays a key role in enhancing the QUickgun experience. There are also Tamil dialogues with subtitles. What I quite liked also was the naming of the different departments i.e Yamalokam as ministry of deaths ,another place as institute of coconut climbing.
There are some real funny dialogues of which can remember a few:
- "This is a private road", says QGM, when Mango Dolly tries to seduce him.
- "He has become thin as a chewed out drumstick," says Murugun's sister-in-law, who makes the 'best dosa-sambhar' in town.
- Earth is my bed, Sky is my ceiling , Whole world is my relative ,And my name is Murugan “Quick Gun Murugan” – Mind it
- If they don’t agree, I will make all Indian Mummies as Egyptian Mummies
- If u are all lightning, I'm 250 volt current I say…
Overall, QGM is a must-watch, to experience something different, something so hillarious and delicious, that you can’t help but go for a second serving. The English version is to be watched for the authentic feel and humour.
GO WATCH IT ....I SAY......
